- [Event Report] Future of AMR - New Partnership for Antibiotic Discovery (February 14, 2025, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo)
On February 14, Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) Manager Ms. Yui Kohno presented at the “Future of AMR – New Partnership for Antibiotics Discovery” conference, which was held in Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Japan.
The conference was hosted by the National Centre for Global Health and Medicine (NCGM), UK Health Security Agency and other partners. This event gathered stakeholders from the scientific community, policy, academia and industry to address how new national and international cross-sectoral partnerships might work together in a sustainable manner for future antibiotic discovery.
Ms. Kohno emphasized the importance of cross-disease AMR discussions that go beyond medical specialties, as well as the value of incorporating a wide range of lived experience in the context of AMR. She also noted that advancing drug discovery and research requires cross-sectoral dialogue and collaboration. Furthermore, she highlighted the need for tools such as plain language summaries to facilitate conversations and clearly communicate research outcomes and policy points to people from diverse backgrounds and the general public, thereby democratizing AMR challenges.
Highlights from the event were also featured on NHK WORLD-JAPAN in both a video segment and an article.
